With a very nice harbor
Javea is between Denia and Moraira. The Montgó mountains shelter it against the wind, and therefore it enjoys a warm and privileged climate throughout the year.
These same mountains are those that end abruptly into the sea, offering us beautiful landscapes. Easy to enjoy from any of the 15 viewpoints indicated in a route strategically located along the coastline of Javea. Furthermore is seabed rich with Posidonia seaweed that gives a beautiful turquoise color to the water.
This beautiful coastal town has 32,000 inhabitants and is a municipality with great historical and scenic richness.
What to see?
Javea has three main areas, the port, the Arenal with its beaches, and the old town, at 2 kilometers inland.
In addition, its walled enclosure hides a labyrinth of cobblestone streets, squares, and corners.
It is a picturesque and charming place perfect for a walk at sunset. For example to discover the most significant monuments and historic buildings of the city. Such as the Church of San Bartolomé, the Municipal Market and the Ethnological Museum, or the Town Hall
In addition to its cultural offer, this part of the Levantine coast is famous for its traditional festivals. Such as the Moors and Christians, the festivities in honor to Jesus Nazareno, or the night of San Juan. Javea is one of those places in the Mediterranean that hide spots of extreme scenic beauty.
Whenever you decide to visit, you should not miss charming places such as the coves and all the viewpoints. Javea is a town with a high Instagram factor, so take a camera, because the photos will be spectacular.
We recommend you to see the following interesting places when you are on your first visit to Javea.
Casco Antiguo de Javea
Find narrow colorful cornered streets beside the San Bartolomé church and small unique shops next to the Municipal Market. Without a doubt, the old town of Javea is full of reasons for you to visit it. Our favorite street is “Carrer Estret”, full of plants and flowers that neighbors take care of throughout the year.
Mirador Cabo de San Antonio
The viewpoint of Cabo de San Antonio, located in the Montgó nature reserve, is an emblematic place. From which you can see the entire bay of Javea and a large part of the town. If the weather is very clear, you may also see the Balearic Islands.
The viewpoint of Cabo de San Antonio can be accessed using a medium-level difficulty hiking trail. It starts at the old Tangó beach next to the Nautical Club of Javea. You can also get there by car through the Carretera de les planes, which leads to the town of Dénia. Before you leave the town a sign on the right will indicate the way to the viewpoint.
Cala Blanca
You will fall in love with the coves of Javea no matter what time of year you visit them. They are located in areas where you can take a walk with the whole family, in contact with nature.
Cala Blanca, also known as la Caleta, has received its name from the dominant coloration of the rock. It is a small paradise of crystal clear and normally calm waters. It is accessible by car, and the last part of about 100 meters along the sea can be walked. If we go by this cove we reach another small and hidden cove. This one simply invites us to observe its beauty and disconnect from the rest of the world.
The Granadella
One of the most emblematic coves of Javea, the Granadella, is surrounded by mountains and Mediterranean vegetation. It is not easy to explain its beauty, therefore we prefer that you discover it for yourself. If you need a place to disconnect and relax, this may very well become one of your favorites. Swimming in the crystal clear waters that are surrounded by mountains is the best therapy for all aches. Have in mind that since this year the access by car is restricted. As a result, you have to park on the main road from where a free bus leaves every 20 minutes.
Cala del Portitxol or Cala Barraca
The white houses of old fishermen are the protagonists of this bay. Together with the beautiful island of Portitxol that can be seen in the distance. It is a highly recommended area for snorkeling or scuba diving due to the beauty of its seabed. Make sure you get there early in summer to secure a place in the car park that has limited access.
Cabo de la Nao
It is the most eastern peak of the Alicante area. The beauty of the cliffs that shape it is comparable to how the sea is seen from here, immense and infinite. This cape is one of the most characteristics of the Spanish Mediterranean coast. And here we can also find the lighthouse that serves as a beacon to sailors and boats in the area.
Port of Javea, Costa Blanca
The fishing district of the town of Javea maintains its history and tradition. The local fish market is right behind the restaurant Cala Bandida. Here we find fresh fish that the sailors have caught throughout the day or night. Just behind the fish market, you can go for a nice walk next to the boats. And depending on the time, you can see them arrive in port with their catch of the day. Another landmark of this port is the modern church with a roof shaped like an inverted boat.
What to eat?
Lovers of Mediterranean seafood will enjoy the many restaurants of all kinds. Because it is a coastal town, fish and rice are the main ingredients of any dish. In addition to typical paellas and rice dishes, you will be able to taste many stews, broths, and fried fish.
