The northern part of the Marina Alta

Another day, another destination. Today we spend a day in Jávea, Xàbia in Valencian, the coastal town in the north part of the Marina Alta. It is a very interesting town with large history, and it is beautiful to see the scenery changes along the 25 kilometers that Jávea/Xàbia has. From open gravel beaches, small coves with pebbles, cliffs of Vertigo to the Arenal sandy beach with the promenade.

How do you get to Jávea/Xàbia?

The AP-7 motorway lays more land inwards and because of that Jávea has no direct exit from it. To get to the town by car you must leave the motorway at the Dénia exit (nr. 62) and take the N-332 south for a few kilometers. Just before Gata de Gorgos the CV-734 will lead into Jávea. There is no direct tram-via link so the only alternative for public transport is the ALSA bus.

The beaches

a day in Jávea

The Arenal beach is the only sandy beach in the Jávea/Xàbia bay. The water of the beach is shallow and at the promenade, there are many restaurants, bars, and pubs to enjoy during the summer days.

When you prefer a day in Jávea in a more natural and quieter setting there is Cala Granadella to go to. It is a bit of a wild place and has a minimum of services. And if you really want to hide from the crowds go visit Cala Sardineras, accessible only on foot through the pine forest. Read more about this beach here.

The historic center of Jávea

a day in Jávea / xàbia

After a morning on the beach or in the mountains, it is essential to visit the historic center of Jávea/Xàbia. The center is located about 2 kilometers from the coast, due to the constant pirate attacks during the 16th century. You can best enjoy it at the end of the afternoon or early evening. One of the most interesting buildings in the center is the Church-Fortress of San Bartolomé. It is a Gothic-style building and is declared a National Artistic Monument. The town hall and the municipal market are other essential buildings found here.
Another very remarkable building is the Soler Blasco Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum. This was a Gothic palace in the XVII century and has a magnificent facade of rough stone. Also, large houses that the rich locals built thanks to the raisin trade at the end of the 18th century are scattered around the center.
