Enchanting cave
The caves of Canelobre in Busot are one of the main touristic attractions on Costa Blanca. They are situated at a height of 700 meters above sea level in the Cabeza de Oro mountains.
How to get to the caves of Canelobre in Busot
The easiest way to get to the cave is by car. Take the CV-777 from El Campello, north of Alicante. This road brings you to the town of Busot and from there it is a few more kilometers over the CV-774 towards Jijona. In Placita de Cabeco the CV-776 leads up towards the cave and the parking area next to it.
History of the cave
The origin dates back to the Jurassic era, 145 million years ago but little more is known of the cave until the 19th century. The discovery of the caves is attributed to the Arabs in the 10th century.
The cave’s interior
There is an interior space inside of the caves of 80.000 square meters, that is accessible through the entrance tunnel of 45 meters long. Once inside it is visible that water and rocks formed beautiful and impressive forms to stalactites, stalagmites, and different columns. The interior dome of the cave is 70 meters tall, and is one of the tallest in Spain, making it look like a cathedral dome. “La Sagrada Familia” is a set of rocky columns 25 meters tall.
Furthermore, the dome has excellent acoustics and because of that, this cave is the perfect stage for many musical concerts.
