Walking along the coast

A walk by the coast

Today we recommend one of the most beautiful routes to go walking along the coast. This route shows beautiful panoramic views of the enviable Marina Baixa.

This path lays between the El Torres beach in Villajoyosa and the beach of La Cala de Finestrat. It runs along the coast through the local nature and you can decide to start this route from either point.
On this occasion, we start walking along the coast from the El Torres beach in Villajoyosa, since it has parking to leave the car. The beach of El Torres is a natural beach of gravel and sand, just in front of a campsite with the same name.

One of the things worth a visit at the beginning of the route is the Sant Josep tower. It is the largest Roman funerary tower preserved in the Iberian Peninsula. They built it in the middle of the 2nd century AD. and the Generalitat restored it in 2014. On top of that, it was the tomb of an unknown important citizen of Allon (Roman Villajoyosa).

The path begins with a smooth ascend and that is when the magnificent views show up to accompany us during the rest of the trip.

After 2.5 kilometers of route, we arrive at the Cala Racó del Conill, a well-known naturist cove.

We continue the path north between the Island of Benidorm on our right and the Puig Campana to our left.

After a while, the path splits at a fork and the left track goes directly to La Cala de Finestrat. They have a beautiful beach that we recommend you to visit.

The highest point

The right path of the fork leads towards a hill where the Vigía del Agulló tower stands at the top. They built this tower in 1530 to protect the coast of the Berber pirate invasions. Next to the tower, they have made a picnic area and there are spectacular panoramic views. The beaches of Benidorm, the Serra Gelada nature reserve, the Serra Bernia, and the Peñón de Ifach show their beauty from up there.

From this point, you can go down to La Cala of Finestrat beneath you and enjoy the beach or the many bars and restaurants. If you prefer to go back, have a look at the lookout south of the tower.
From here the path leads to the Cala Racó del Conill and after that the same road that we followed on our way in carries us to the El Torres beach.

We have come to the end of the route. What is left, is to have a refreshing dip in the sea at this beach when the weather is good. Or maybe a visit to the historic colored houses and the beach promenade of Villajoyosa.

Whatever you decide, we hope you enjoy it!
